Projects

Developing concepts and hypothesis and improving procedures and techniques for molecular, biochemical and chemical investigations on phenotyping of secondary cell walls of trees.

Research Interests

Evaluation of the biochemical and physical properties of different genetically improved tree species and their potential use in the Forest Products Industries. Selection of the best clones is based on the properties required for specific products. For example: in the pulp and paper and biorefinery industries wood chips with low content of lignin with an easy to remove with mild pulping or pretreatment condition is a characteristic to aim. Biochemical, physical and chemical methods are used to verify the properties of these trees clones.
Other research interests include Wood Chemistry, Isolation of wood compounds, Chemical and physical analysis of wood, Secondary cell wall analysis, Forest Products, biorefining, pulp and paper, wood protection.
